Geography Fieldwork at Ivinghoe Beacon

Posted: 30th April 2019

Lockers Park is very close to the National Trust’s Ashridge Estate. Part of this estate is Ivinghoe Beacon, a very popular landmark with fantastic views. Our Year 7 geographers are studying the impact of humans on the environment at the Beacon and this will form part of their geography fieldwork project that they have to submit for Common Entrance. The most obvious impact is on the paths which are worn away. The pupils measured how much had been eroded from the path in three different locations. They also kept their eyes open for other factors that affected the area – litter and noise pollution (from planes) were two things that stood out. Over the next two terms they will be putting their projects together.
