We were delighted to welcome former pupils back to school last Sunday for this year’s Old Boys’ Day and cricket match, a cherished occasion that celebrates friendship, tradition and the enduring connection generations of boys share with the school.
Old Boys from across the decades returned to Lockers Park, with attendees ranging from those who left in the 1980s to members of the Class of 2025. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces reconnecting with former classmates, teachers and staff while sharing stories from their time at the school.
The day began with welcome drinks in the Library, where guests enjoyed the opportunity to catch up, reminisce and renew friendships before embarking on tours of the school. For many, it was a chance to revisit favourite classrooms, sporting grounds and familiar corners of the campus while seeing how Lockers Park has evolved for today’s boys.
Among those joining the celebrations was former Head Master Roger Stephens, whose presence was warmly welcomed by Old Boys and staff alike. His contribution to the life of the school remains fondly remembered by many former pupils, making his attendance particularly meaningful.
Guests then gathered for a delicious lunch, where conversation flowed easily as memories were shared and friendships spanning decades were rekindled. The afternoon moved to the cricket field for the traditional fixture between the current Lockers Park XI and an Old Boys XI. A wonderful afternoon of cricket and nostalgia saw the two sides contest a fiercely competitive match that embodied everything that is special about the Lockers Park community.
Batting first, the boys posted a competitive 138, with Balthazar leading the way with a determined 25 and Kiran providing valuable late-order runs with an entertaining 22. Despite some excellent bowling from the Old Boys, the current pupils showed great resilience to set a challenging target.
The chase looked to be swinging in the Old Boys’ favour when Luke blasted a rapid 29 from just 14 balls, but the boys refused to give in. Kiran struck early with three wickets, while Toby claimed three crucial wickets for just nine runs. Vihaan’s outstanding spell of 2 for 4 helped turn the game back in Lockers Park’s favour.
With the match going down to the final overs, the boys held their nerve to secure a thrilling three-run victory over their predecessors. More important than the result, however, was seeing former pupils back on the grounds, sharing stories, renewing friendships and enjoying the game that continues to connect generations of Lockers Park boys.
No Old Boys’ Day would be complete without a traditional match tea, and the day concluded in true Lockers Park style with a wonderful spread enjoyed by players, families, staff and guests.
Old Boys’ Day serves as a powerful reminder that while boys may leave Lockers Park to embark on the next stage of their education and beyond, they remain part of the Lockers Park family for life. The friendships formed here, the values instilled and the memories created continue to unite generations long after they have passed through the school gates.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a memorable celebration of community, friendship and shared history. We look forward to welcoming our Old Boys back again next year.
