One of my favourite sights at Lockers Park is seeing parents sitting patiently in their cars at 7.30pm while their sons squeeze every last minute out of the day.
Across the grounds, boys are playing football, building camps in the woods, creating games that have never existed before and enjoying the freedom that childhood should provide. There are no screens, no bedrooms and no endless scrolling. Instead, there is laughter, friendship, imagination and adventure.
It reminds me so much of my own childhood and, as a parent, it is exactly the sort of upbringing I want for my own children.
This is one of the great advantages of being a boarding school, even for boys who never sleep here. The extended day creates opportunities that simply do not exist within a traditional school timetable. Boys have more time to discover new interests, develop friendships, take part in activities and grow in confidence. They learn independence naturally while still being supported by exceptional staff who know them well.
What excites me even more is what comes next.
Our partnership with Harrow School is already widening the opportunities available to our boys. Through access to expertise, specialist knowledge and collaboration with colleagues across the Harrow family, our pupils are being exposed to ideas, experiences and opportunities that would previously have been difficult to offer. Whether academic, creative, sporting or leadership focused, these experiences broaden horizons and help boys understand what is possible.
When I look across the grounds on evenings like this, I see boys doing what children should be doing. Playing. Exploring. Creating. Building friendships. Learning about themselves and the world around them.
That is why Lockers Park feels so special.
If you would like to see how your son could benefit from an education that combines outstanding pastoral care, exceptional opportunities and the best of a boarding school environment, I would be delighted to welcome you for a private tour.
The best start for boys.
