The Future of Boys Starts with the Right Foundations

I watched Gareth Southgate’s BBC documentary last night and came away feeling both concerned and reassured.

Concerned because the challenges facing many boys today are real. The documentary highlighted rising levels of loneliness, a lack of positive role models, struggles with belonging and a growing sense that boys are often unsure where they fit in modern society. As a father of daughters, I can see the difference in messaging and support that exists. This is not about diminishing the importance of girls. It is about ensuring boys receive the same attention, encouragement and understanding that they need to flourish.

At the same time, I felt reassured because so much of what Gareth Southgate spoke about is already central to life at Lockers Park.

We believe boys thrive when they are known as individuals. Small class sizes ensure nobody gets lost. Exceptional pastoral care creates an environment where boys can ask questions, share concerns and develop confidence in who they are. Our curriculum embraces the way boys learn, with movement, practical experiences, outdoor learning, robotics, woodwork, Forest School, sport every day and strong academic challenge sitting side by side.

Most importantly, boys are encouraged to belong. To find their passions. To build friendships. To take risks. To develop resilience. To become kind, confident and ambitious young men.

Our partnership with Harrow School strengthens this further, providing outstanding role models, aspirational opportunities and experiences that broaden horizons both inside and beyond the classroom.

Gareth Southgate concluded that if we give boys a better start in life, their futures can look very different. At Lockers Park, that belief sits at the heart of everything we do.

We believe we provide the best start for boys.

If you would like to see how your son could flourish in an environment designed specifically for boys, I would be delighted to welcome you for a conversation and private tour.
