At Lockers Park, we often say “Boarding is our Superpower” – and it is the people within our boarding community who help make it so.
Our Day Matron joined Lockers Park in 2024, following 10 years as a Teaching Assistant at South Hill Primary School. Since then, she has become an important part of school and boarding life, providing the everyday care, reassurance and friendly face that help make our boarding house feel like a home from home.
As she explains:
“The boys are full of energy and enthusiasm, and I love seeing their individual personalities, talents and characters shine through.
“Whether they need help with a medical need, a little care and reassurance, or simply want to pop in for a hot chocolate and a chat, I love that they know they can always come and say hello.”
Importantly, this care and attention extends beyond the boys who board. Our boarding team is part of the fabric of everyday school life, meaning day pupils also benefit from the additional pastoral support, familiar faces and sense of community that a thriving boarding house brings.
Boarding gives boys the opportunity to develop independence, confidence and responsibility gradually, while surrounded by familiar friends and staff who know them well. For boys who may go on to board at senior school, these early experiences can provide an invaluable foundation for the next stage of their education.
Through our partnership with Harrow School, we share a commitment to the holistic education of boys and to preparing them to thrive academically and personally. For boys hoping to progress to Harrow, where boarding is at the heart of school life, the experience gained at Lockers Park can help them approach that transition with greater confidence and independence. Equally, these skills provide excellent preparation for boys progressing to other leading boarding schools.
