Music

“Lockers Park gives a well-rounded education that allows time for extra-curricular pursuits – both formal (music, art, drama, sport) and informal (time in the shrubs!).”
Parent Testimonial

Lockers Park is a school with music at its heart. We believe being able to play music enables personal expression and emotional development. We focus on the social aspect of music-making to ensure it’s as engaging and as interactive as possible. Many of the boys play in our orchestras and chamber groups or sing in one of our choirs and music also played a key role in our 150th Anniversary celebrations.

The Music Department produces a full and vibrant calendar with highlights including:

  • Informal Concerts where every boy learning an instrument at any level performs
  • The Chapel Choir which sings at regular chapel services and concerts throughout the year
  • Music Ensembles such as Samba Drumming Club, and String and Brass Ensembles
  • Participating in the Set (house) music competition
  • Playing instruments in the Junior and Senior Plays
  • Singing in the Junior and Senior Plays
  • Musical visits to senior schools
  • The Christmas Carol Service where the Chapel Choir sing festive pieces in St John’s Church, Boxmoor
  • The Berkhamsted Festival of Light where the Chapel Choir sing Christmas Carols to the local community in Berkhamsted High Street

Private Music Lessons

Some nine out of ten pupils choose to learn a musical instrument, with many learning two or three. We have ten expert Music Teachers who take pupils for individual lessons.

Unsurprisingly, with all of these musical opportunities at their fingertips, Lockers Park pupils frequently win music scholarships. Our extensive musical provision also makes Lockers Park an excellent choice for gifted and talented young musicians interested in Senior School scholarships – do contact our admissions team if your son has a special musical talent.
