Book A Visit

Learning

At Lockers Park, learning takes place in small classes of 16 or fewer which allows them to gain confidence and flourish academically with individualised attention. We employ a variety of experiential, visual and auditory teaching techniques that are specifically designed to engage and motivate boys. Visit our classrooms and you will find a palpable buzz of activity with boys asking questions and animatedly engaging in lessons.

A pillar of our prep school teaching is that we prioritise metacognition (learning to learn), which gives boys the ability to make the most of their education, both at Lockers Park and beyond. Our boys are regularly assessed and monitored throughout their Lockers Park career to ensure they are making good progress. We update parents frequently through regular reports and Parent Reception Evenings.

In Years 3 and 4, the Form Tutor is also subject teacher for core subjects, supported by a team of specialist teachers and a teaching assistant. Moving up to Years 5 and above, boys are taught by subject specialists, giving them a mature school experience that encourages greater autonomy and prepares them for senior school education.

Exam Preparation

Exams are an integral part of entry into many senior schools, a requirement for many scholarship applications and form the foundation of GCSE and A Level exams at senior school. However, it is very important to us that exam preparation remains a healthy goal, in concert with a balanced approach to a rewarding and enriching school life.

We thoroughly prepare our pupils for all upcoming examinations as we know that excellent preparation equates to excellent performance.

In Year 6, some boys will be need to take the ISEB Common Pre-tests for admission to a wide range of senior schools. Boys at Lockers Park begin practice tests from Year 3 and start formal preparation in Year 5.

In Year 8, all boys, except those who have received scholarships, are expected to sit the ISEB Common Entrance exam. This is a requirement of many of the senior schools that our boys move on to and gives all our boys a validation of their studies and valuable preparation for their GCSE exams at senior school.
